The Processor
People usually find the most-intimidating step to be installing the processor, the nexus of your entire computer.
However, it is quite painless. First, take note of the lower-left and right corners of the processor mount in the picture, where there are several pins missing (forming a slanted, not square corner; on some processors, only one corner will be like this, but in this picture there are two corners as such). This is known as the 'key' for the processor, as this configuration allows for the CPU to be inserted only one way.
This section will match up seamlessly with a similar area on the CPU. Before picking up your processor, make SURE you have grounded yourself, either by wearing the anti-static wristband or by touching the metal case (or preferably both to be safe).

Raise the lever as shown in the picture on the left, and drop the processor in. Notice I said "drop"!
Never, ever force the processor into the mounting, as it should seamlessly fall in
Be extremely careful not to bend any of the CPU pins. They are extremely delicate, and should one bend, the CPU will not fit.
Check that the CPU sits perfectly flat in the socket and is not raised at any corner. Lower the arm again to return it to its original position. The socket will grip the CPU pins and lock it in place.
The processor should now look like the one depicted on the right (or fairly similar; this is an Athlon 2600+ depicted).
After properly securing the processor, we are going to move on to mounting the CPU cooler (aka the heatsink).
